New Moon Yoga & Meditation: 5 Sacred Practices for Intention, Renewal & New Beginnings

The New Moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle — a quiet threshold between what has been and what is beginning to emerge.

Unlike the illumination of the Full Moon, the New Moon draws us inward. The sky becomes dark, inviting us into stillness, reflection and the fertile space of possibility. It can be a beautiful time to listen more deeply, reconnect with what matters and plant intentions for the cycle ahead.

Over the years, I’ve created a collection of New Moon yoga, meditation and Yoga Nidra practices to explore this energy in different ways. You don’t need to do them all, and there is no single way to honour the New Moon. Choose the practice that speaks to where you are right now.

New Moon Gentle Yoga Flow

For when you feel called to move, breathe and plant your intentions through the body.

This gentle yoga flow was created around the energy of the New Moon and the symbolism of planting seeds for the cycle ahead.

Through mindful movement, breath and heart-centred intention, the practice creates space to turn inward and consider what you would like to nurture in your life. Rather than forcing an outcome, allow your intention to begin as something small — a seed that can be tended over time.

New Moon Manifestation Meditation

For when you want to clarify what you are ready to call into your life.

The New Moon is often associated with manifestation, but manifestation doesn’t have to mean creating a long list of things we want.

This guided meditation invites you to turn inward, connect with the quieter energy of the New Moon and plant a seed of intention from the heart. Through gentle breath awareness and visualization, you’ll explore what feels ready to be nurtured and allow that intention to begin taking root.

New Moon Affirmation Meditation

For when you want to cultivate trust in what you cannot yet see.

There is something powerful about the darkness of the New Moon. The next cycle has already begun, even though its light is not yet visible.

Through calming breath awareness and softly spoken affirmations, this meditation explores that space between intention and becoming. It is an invitation to release pressure, reconnect with your intuition and trust that not everything needs to be known or figured out immediately.

Yoga Nidra: New Moon Manifestation

For when you want to plant your intention beneath the thinking mind.

Yoga Nidra offers another way to work with New Moon intention — not by thinking harder about what you want, but by becoming deeply still.

This 35-minute practice guides you through a body scan, heart-centred awareness and gentle breathwork before inviting your sankalpa, or heartfelt intention, to take root within the quiet space of Yoga Nidra.

The guided practice is followed by 25 minutes of soft ambient music, giving you space to continue resting or drift into sleep beneath the energy of the New Moon.

Yoga Nidra: New Moon Temple of Renewal

For when you feel drawn toward ritual, symbolism and a deeper inner journey.

This New Moon Yoga Nidra takes you into a sacred inner temple held by moonlight, silence and ancient keepers. Through gentle settling, a luminous body scan and the planting of your sankalpa, the practice explores the New Moon as the fertile darkness of becoming — the unseen space where transformation begins before anything appears on the surface.

It can be especially beautiful during times of transition, at the beginning of a new chapter, or whenever you feel called to reconnect with your own sense of renewal.

Creating Your Own New Moon Ritual

You can also combine one of these practices with a simple ritual of your own.

Dim the lights, light a candle, burn incense or diffuse an essential oil that helps you feel grounded and present. Bring your journal nearby and give yourself a little time before or after your practice to listen inward.

You might reflect on:

  • What am I ready to begin?

  • What feels quietly ready to emerge?

  • What would I like to nurture during this next cycle?

  • Where am I being invited to trust rather than control?

  • What intention would I like to plant and carry with me?

You don’t need to have every answer. Sometimes the New Moon practice is simply creating enough quiet to hear what is already beginning to whisper beneath the surface.

Return Whenever the Moon Becomes New

You can return to this collection each New Moon and choose whichever practice feels most aligned.

Some months you may want to move. Others you may feel drawn toward meditation, affirmations or the deep stillness of Yoga Nidra. Let the ritual change with you.

You can find more guided meditations and Yoga Nidra practices on The Blooming Spirit Podcast, as well as my meditation library and courses on Insight Timer.

And if you also practice with the opposite phase of the lunar cycle, explore my Full Moon Yoga & Meditation collection for practices centred around reflection, illumination and release.

Many sweet lunar blessings,
